About the Winery

Test
35 hectares
Located in Restigné, a landmark village in the Bourgueil appellation, Domaine du Petit Bondieu carries on a multi-generational family winemaking heritage. Led with passion and forward-thinking precision by Thomas Pichet, the estate now spans 29 hectares ideally situated between sun-drenched hillsides and Loire River terraces across both Bourgueil and Chinon appellations. In 2010, Thomas Pichet committed the entire vineyard to certified organic viticulture, driven by an uncompromising respect for soil biodiversity and living ecosystems. Careful vineyard management, thoughtful plowing, and controlled yields allow Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc to draw their profound authenticity and minerality from the underlying chalk and gravel soils. In the cellar, winemaking is gentle and minimalist: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, delicate macerations in temperature-controlled concrete vats, and patient aging on fine lees, accompanied by seasoned French oak barrels for the reserve cuvées. The resulting collection displays outstanding purity and consistency, widely celebrated by international critics and crowned Winemaker of the Year by the Guide Hachette des Vins.

Divine Loire Tasting Review

Deeply rooted in the heart of Restigné, Domaine du Petit Bondieu exemplifies the modern renaissance of Bourgueil and Chinon. Under the direction of Thomas Pichet, certified organic since 2010, the 29-hectare estate provides a clear and authentic expression of its diverse soils. From the sandy gravel terraces that impart crunchy red fruit to the Bourgueil Céleste, to the limestone slopes of the Chinon Le Haut Midi, each cuvée impresses with its precision and refined tannins. The natural sparkling Pét-Nat Petit Âne demonstrates impressive craft, delivering pure and celebratory bubbles without added sulfites. Hospitality at the winery is exceptionally warm and generous, particularly during cellar tours accompanied by artisan Touraine goat cheeses and charcuterie. A must-visit address to discover the dynamic spirit of organic Loire winemaking.

Featured Wines

The wines of Domaine du Petit Bondieu are crafted around precise single-vineyard bottlings that capture the distinctive geology of Restigné. In red Bourgueil, the cuvée Céleste, harvested from gravel terraces, delivers a vibrant and juicy expression bursting with fresh red berry fruit. The Couplets and Terres Brunes selections offer deeper spice and substance, while Les Haies, sourced from old hillside vines on limestone-clay slopes, reveals a noble structure and outstanding aging capacity. In the Chinon appellation, the estate produces Le Haut Midi red, a standout cuvée awarded a Coup de Cœur by the Guide Hachette, seamlessly blending silken tannins with refined dark fruit. White wine lovers will enjoy Le Haut Midi Blanc, a pure Chenin Blanc offering radiant floral notes and crisp stony minerality. Lastly, the Petit Âne cuvée provides a natural sparkling Pét-Nat in both white and rosé, bottled without added sulfites for a lively, refreshing experience.
