The 2021 vintage in Savennières stands out as excellent, showcasing a balance between climatic challenges and outstanding quality. The year began with an early budbreak followed by one of the most severe spring frosts in decades, significantly reducing yields. Nevertheless, the vines benefited from a cool summer with regular rainfall, promoting slow and even ripening. Grapes, harvested three weeks earlier than the previous year, were healthy and well-balanced, resulting in white wines of remarkable precision, vibrant freshness, and characteristic minerality. Compared to other Loire appellations like Muscadet or Montlouis, which were also impacted by frost, Savennières leveraged its unique schist terroir to produce exceptional wines. Rated 4/5, this vintage is a benchmark for the region’s dry white wines.
