The 2019 vintage in Savennières is nothing short of divine, delivering dry white wines of remarkable complexity and exemplary purity. This year, marked by contrasting climatic conditions, posed significant challenges for winemakers in Anjou-Saumur. After a damaging frost in early April and episodes of flower drop, the summer drought further reduced yields. Yet, these challenges enhanced the wine’s quality: the summer heat concentrated aromas and promoted slow ripening, while moderate September rains balanced acidity. Compared to other Loire appellations producing dry whites, Savennières 2019 stands out for its intensity and balance. While the harvest volume was below average, the exceptional quality more than makes up for it. This vintage, rated 4.5/5, will be remembered as a testament to resilience and excellence.
