The Saumur 2023 vintage is divine, offering wines of great complexity and finesse. After a modest 2022 vintage, 2023 stands out for its remarkable quality, despite some climatic challenges, notably the heavy rains in September. The year’s conditions favored a long maturation of the grapes, resulting in a beautiful concentration of flavors and a subtle balance. The Chenin Blancs of Saumur, particularly impacted by the summer drought, still produced balanced, fruity, and vibrant dry wines with fresh fruit aromas and great tension. The careful harvest and meticulous work in the cellar revealed elegant cuvées, marked by pure fruit and a pleasingly gourmand palate. Compared to other Loire appellations, Saumur stands out for its more tense and elegant approach. This vintage deserves a rating of 4.5/5.
