The 2023 Bonnezeaux vintage can be described as very good, despite particularly demanding conditions. The year was marked by significant rainfall during the summer and autumn, and unusually high temperatures in September, which led to widespread fungal diseases and acetic spoilage. Winemakers had to carry out highly selective harvests, discarding a large portion of the grapes to retain only the healthiest bunches. This meticulous work resulted in wines with a lighter structure than usual, yet displaying superb balance between freshness, fruit, and sweetness. Less opulent than some previous vintages, the 2023s appeal through their drinkability and modern style. Compared to other Loire appellations producing sweet wines, Bonnezeaux 2023 stands out with its vibrant and harmonious expression, even though it offers more moderate concentration. With a score of 3.7 out of 5, it represents a fine achievement in a challenging year.
