Our take on this winery

Catherine and Pierre Breton farm eleven hectares of vines east of Bourgueil in the village of Restigné. They mainly produce wines from Chinon and Bourgueil (and, admittedly, a little from Vouvray too). The wine selection itself is quite wide, ranging from everyday wines to drink with friends to more elaborate wines, designed for aging.

Catherine and Pierre Breton first introduced biodynamic practices in their wine making in 1994, pioneering the movement towards natural wine in a region where the climate and the soil can make it challenging!

The Breton couple (and family) are at the head of vineyards located on varied soils, ranging from gravel to yellow tuff. The diversity of their wines thus comes directly from the diversity of the terroirs where the vines grow. But also in the way each of the cuvées is aged and vinified.

Catherine and Pierre Breton’s wines are made mainly from Cabernet Franc, known in the Loire Valley (amusing but totally fortuitous) as … “Breton” grape!

Domaine Catherine et Pierre Breton produces wines from different Loire Valley appellations such as Bourgueil, Vouvray, Chinon. The vineyard is cultivated to produce natural wines, i.e. from grapes grown in organic or biodynamic agriculture and vinified without synthetic or chemical products except sulfur dioxide which is essential for the preservation of wine. Domaine Catherine et Pierre Breton has received our “Very nice wines” badge. This badge distinguishes wineries whose wines are regularly mentioned in French wine guides.
