Clos de l’Abbaye, nestled near Bourgueil, thrives in the heart of an ancient Benedictine Abbey. Jérémy and Faustine Lorieux have spearheaded winemaking here since 2017 on a modest estate spanning 7 hectares. The vineyard, established in 1975, is noteworthy for its single parcel layout, offering a microclimate courtesy of flint gravel soils of considerable depth, some 6 to 7 meters. These conditions, alongside protective walls, create an ideal haven for Cabernet Franc, known locally as Breton. Emphasizing a hands-on, minimalist approach, the Lorieux’s practice sustainable viticulture. Their rosé and red wines are complemented by the winery’s distinction as a family-run, approachable domain offering free tastings. With the Bourgueil appellation at its core, Clos de l’Abbaye is a hidden gem.
