Well, this concerns mainly the vineyards located further downstream the river Loire (say, from Angers to Nantes). When you go up the river, the climate of the vineyard becomes semi-oceanic.
But why is it important? Because an oceanic climate means mild winters (even if in recent years frost episodes have been quite frequent and harmful for the Loire vineyards), hot summers with good sunshine (and that’s good for concentrating the grapes with sugar), and low temperature differences.
