1928: Gaston Huet and the Vow of the Vines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The story began modestly in the late 1920s when Victor Huet acquired the first plots above the village. Yet the figure who permanently engraved the domaine into Loire folklore was his son, Gaston Huet<\/a> [the iconic Vouvray winegrower and longtime mayor]. Held as a prisoner of war in Germany for five harrowing years during World War II, he kept his spirit intact by drawing from memory the contours of his hillsides and cellars. Returning home without a whisper of self-pity, he pulled on his boots and tended his vines daily while serving as mayor of Vouvray for over four decades.<\/p>\n\n\n
